HEPATITIS ZERO

Hepatitis caused about 1.34 million deaths worldwide in 2015, according to the World Health Organization. This death rate is similar to that of tuberculosis and higher than that of HIV today, and it is currently growing. An estimated 257 million people are living with hepatitis B, and 71 million people with hepatitis C, globally.

The Rotary knows how to fight and eradicate disease worldwide as we are very close to eradicating Polio around the world. Now, we are also focused on the eradication of hepatitis with a goal to eradicate hepatitis by 2030. The Rotary has already carried out more than 1 million tests and has discovered 10,000 infected.

To win this fight and avoid millions of deaths every year, we need the engagement of as many people as possible in various parts of the world. Together we can eradicate viral hepatitis globally.

The Rotary Club of Tulum continues to do its part with local testing periodically throughout the year. In 2019, we administered 1,000 hepatitis tests and discovered 1 person in our local population that tested positive for Hepatitis and they are now undergoing treatment.

Join us in this great fight for life!
